Time

Time is a subtle, ever-present feature of our work.

Things that have been weathered or eroded by time invite us to think about what was there before, connecting past and present. From the patterns created by planting and agriculture to the erosion of stone or the weathering of bronze and timber, the marks left on the landscape reveal the symbiotic relationship between man and nature.

Our designs embrace the effects of time to create a richly layered narrative that grounds us in the physical world and enriches our experience.

Colour

Individual colours always contribute something unique to a design, but it’s the careful combination of colours that can truly bring a garden or landscape to life.

We work with pigment as a dynamic, shifting element of design, combining planting and materials palettes to create harmonious visual relationships.

Saturated or filtered, blended or contrasted, colour can offer infinite variety when seen at different times of the day or seasons.

Materials

We are fascinated by the properties of materials and the way they change over time to create texture, interest and character.

Our projects feature a rich palette of honestly expressed materials, each chosen for their unique qualities and their ability to contribute to the overall look and feel of a garden.

We often collaborate with artists to craft beautiful sculptural elements which showcase the beauty of materials.

Form

Form can be used to create and vary atmosphere within a landscape or garden.

It can help direct our experience, encouraging movement through a sequence of spaces, or creating a more intimate sense of enclosure in which to stop and sit.

Built or organic elements can be used to delineate space and frame views, reflecting or contrasting with nature to impose order or to introduce playfulness, spontaneity and moments of delight.
